Directed by Jason Reitman
Starring Ellen Paige, Michael Cera, and Jennifer Garner
This would have to be one of my all time favorite films. It is about a 16 year old, Juno, who discovers she is pregnant after sleeping with her friend Bleeker. She goes to the clinic to get an abortion but she can’t do it. She decides to give up her baby for adoption and finds the perfect couple, Mark and Vanessa, in the penny saver. Vanessa was born to be a mom and the Mark is a cool guitar player who shares the same taste in music and movies as Juno. After meeting them once, Juno is sure they are the perfect couple.
Juno spends quite a bit of time with mark, forming an emotional connection between the two. At the same time, she acts indifferent to Bleeker who is in love with her. The film continues with juno having to figure out where both relationships stand and having the baby.
I love this film because it is hilarious. It does make jabs at pregnancy which some of my friends found inappropriate, but I loved it. I loved the fact that she decides to keep the baby and give it up for adoption. It’s a hard and humiliating decision to live with a pregnancy in high school but it shows that Juno doesn’t hide from the “consequences” of her actions.
