Lost in Translation (2003)
This is the typical boy meets girl story but with complications. Bob, an older former actor goes to Japan to shoot some commercials. He is lonely and unhappy with his life, possibly having a mid-life crisis. His marriage has grown cold and he struggles with that. In the hotel he meets Charlotte, a young woman who is on a quest to find herself. Her marriage is not fulfilling and she feels really lonley. They spend a lot of time together just enjoying each other’s company. Bob eventually has to leave and go back to his family. They realize that they love each other but the movie leaves it up to the viewer as to how the story will end.
What I enjoyed about this movie was the chemistry between Bob and Charlotte. They were both searching for something in their lives but weren’t sure what. Bill Murray is a great actor and this showed well in this movie. He is funny but also knows how to be serious. Scarlett Johansson portrayed well the lost, lonely young woman on a quest to find herself . The story was told in what I believe is more the classical version which suited this movie well. The actors did a good job but at times the movie was a bit boring. I would have liked to see a little more action and interaction between the stars but what interaction they had was well played
