Pacific Rim (2013)
Directed by: Guillermo del Toro
Creatures known as Kaiju rise from the sea and start a war that destroys cities and kills millions of people. A new weapon is created in order to combat the unrelenting monsters as the attacks become more frequent and more devastating. The huge robots called Jaegers are controlled by two pilots connected via a neural “mindbridge”. This is done so the pilots move in unison. Earth’s final hope rests upon a washed up former pilot and a rookie, whom has never battled a Kaiju.
This is a good movie if you like sci-fi, special effects, lots of explosions and fighting. I think I counted at least 3 other movies this film mirrored. Very reminiscent of the old Godzilla movies. It probably could have been called Godzilla vs. MechWarrior fight on Independence Day 2012! The storyline? Very dry and non-interesting. If you could call it a story line at all. That being said, The robots were very cool and the idea that mind connection to run a robot was interesting. I have to say that not one of the three of us that saw this film was really impressed nor happy we spent the money or time to see this.
