Death Sentence

Death Sentence (2007) Rated R. Directed by James Wan (SAW, Insidious, The Conjuring)
Starring Keven Bacon (X-Men First Class) John Goodman (Monsters Inc.) Garrett Hedlund (Friday Night Lights)

film stars Keven Bacon as Nick Hume, a man who takes the law into his own hands after his son is murdered by a gang as an initiation ritual.

This movie wowed me in every way that a movie in this genre can. It brought fourth an amazing performance from Kevin Bacon as the “average Joe” Nick Hume. The acting from every member of the cast was done very well. All the actors pulled off the character they portrayed perfectly. The family was very close, very loving. The police were realistic and apprehensive throughout. The gangsters were cruel, heartless, and foulmouthed as most urban youth are today. Kevin Bacon is brilliant as always as the tormented father of a happy family , beset by a horrendous event. John Goodman puts on a stunning performance in a small but impressive supporting role that made me think, “this guy played Fred Flintstone?” The Gang leader Billy, was played marvelously by Garrett Hedlund. Portraying a coldblooded, but at the same time heartbroken antagonist. Bacon, without a doubt stole the show for me. With a lot of revenge movies, you rarely get to relate or feel what the hero is feeling, you just watch the plot points go by at warp speed and smile as the revenge is finally exacted. But this film is different, Bacon’s acting brought forward the thought that he WAS really the father of that boy, he really saw him killed, and he sells the path down the dark road that his character proceeds down. And Nick Becomes one bad Mother ****** toward the end of the movie when he makes a choice.
A gripping Character study that twists and contorts Bacon’s’ character in every which way, siphoning all the humanity out of his soul as he prepares to lay his life on the line to protect his family from the murderous gang that kills his eldest Son. This film is a gem for me. I am a huge fan of the Director James Wan, and I’ve  got to say that his movies hold a special place in my heart for the sheer thrill, terror, shock factor and fun that his films seem to always bring. The action is shot beautifully, the lighting is well done and he for sure, gets the best out of his actors. I’m giving this movie an….
