Director: Wes Craven
Synopsis: This movie follows a group of teenagers who all have strange dreams about “a creepy guy in a red and green striped shirt and a dirty old hat, with knives for fingers”. He taunts and tortures them in their dreams and slowly starts to kill them in their dreams. As the teens are starting to be killed off one of the teens figures out that Freddy Kruger is his name and that her parents know about him too; at least her mother does. The police are unsure what to think or believe at first when the kids start getting killed, and suspect the boyfriend of the first victim until he is targeted as well. The only way to be safe from Freddy is to do as his ‘theme song’ states: “7,8 better stay up late… 9, 10 never sleep again”
Review: This is quite an old movie and the graphics are not very great but well done for their time. One of the things that bothers me about this movie is after one of the deaths of a person; where Freddy dragged her across her bedroom ceiling the cops do not pay any attention to it and still blame her boyfriend saying he stabbed her and what not… but how they don’t realize that and try to imagine this guy doing that to his girlfriend and it very much would have failed and not been possible, and it never even comes up. Also, this film does not give a great any sort of story about where Freddy came from at this point; there are about 8 movies that involve Freddy and various groups of teenagers and adults alike, but you only get a slight glimpse of who or how he came to be in this film. The music is eerie and suspenseful. Wes Craven does a great job at keeping the audience interested and wondering what exactly is the real world and what is Freddy’s dream world and how he is going to ‘play’ with his next victim. For the time period it came out, it is a great movie, still a favorite among many people and even considered to be one of the scariest killers of all time by many. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good scary movie; although those that have very vivid dreams, or possibly those who even get scared easily may not like it too much. I give it 4/5 Stars.
