The Wolverine (2013) starring Hugh Jackman was directed by James Mangold and is a side-story to the popular X-Men series. Logan is sought out by an old friend, Yashida. A successful Japanese businessman who wants Logan to travel to Japan to speak with him before he passes. Logan refuses at first but is persuaded by to take the trip. Logan learns of Yashida’s true motive in bringing Logan to Japan: Yashida offers to trade his mortality for the immortality of the Wolverine. Logan would get to live an ordinary life and die an ordinary death and avoid the pain and loss that he’s been dealing with. Logan refuses the offer. Soon after, during Yashida’s funeral the Yakuza attack and capture Mariko, the granddaughter of Yashida. Logan must protect Mariko and discover what the Yakuza are really after.
Although the film was action-packed, I felt the plot was typical of these types of movies and most of the plot changes were easily anticipated. i suppose that’s understandable being that this is the sixth of seven X-Men films released now. If someone is looking for a film that doesn’t require a lot of thought and they simply want to be entertained, I say go for it!
