Synopsis: 20 Feet from Stardom explores the world of the background singer. It follows the stories, history and careers of several well known, and not so well known background singers, including Lisa Fischer who at one time had a dynamic solo career.  However, she chose to return to singing background for famous bands such as the Rolling Stones.  The film illustrates the difficulties and frustrations of singers; Darlene Love, Merry Clayton and Lisa Fischer as they struggled in the shadow of the spotlight.

Review: Documentary. Music and/or musical history. This film gives insight into the world of the voice(s) that can be heard harmonizing in the background of many well known artist’s recordings and shows.  It tells the story of dreams of stardom almost coming to life. You may find yourself cheering for the lovely ladies of song, only to realize that the story draws it’s own conclusion as they remain behind the scenes. Great soundtrack and story which is rich in music history. 5/5
