Director: Robert Stromberg

Synopsis: A human boy wanders into the mythical land of the moors and meet a girl fairy, Maleficent. Despite their differences, the two become friends and later fall in love. However, the boy stops coming to the moors to visit the fairy because of his greed to work his way up the kingdom. He gets the opportunity to become if he kills the fairy. He is torn because he loves her but his greed is greater than his love for her so he steals her wings and is crowned King. She becomes vengeful and evil and puts a curse on his daughter that she will be put into a deep sleep forever unless woken by true loves kiss.

Review: I enjoyed the new spin on an old story and that this time the story was from Maleficent’s point of view. I liked that Maleficent put the curse on the baby but she still watched out for the child. I liked that the King got what he deserved in the end.

I liked the fantasy creatures in the moors. I think that the characters were well created and had good detail. Overall the effects of the movie were well done.  When Maleficent was a child and she was happy the lighting was bright and the mood was light and happy. When Maleficent was betrayed, the mood of the story completely changes. The lighting becomes dark and the overall feeling becomes dark through moors and the kingdom.

I did not the like pixie characters. Their characters were overly dumb and did not fit into the overall feeling in the movie. Their characters were not funny, they were just annoying. I also did not like their animations when they were pixies. I thought it was weird and it was hard to look at. Aurora was very simple minded and did not have much of a personality. It was hard to relate to her but it makes sense because she was raised by the three dumb pixies. Overall, this movie was enjoyable and worth the watch.
