Wonder Boys (2010) directed by Curtis Hanson
An English Professor played by Michael Douglas, has a very big week ahead of him. Bigger that he images, his wife has left him, his editor is coming to town to check on where he is at with the book he has been writing for seven years is. He has a very gifted student that it is having all sorts of personal and social issues. Along with him wanting to be with the woman he doesn’t realize he truly loves.
This is one of those movies that I feel has sat under the radar. It has a wonderful cast, Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Francis McDormand, Katie Holmes, Robert Downey Jr and Rip Torn. It is a great story about a man who is telling the students of his university how to go about being great writers and him feeling like he no longer is. He’s life is in quite a mess and he lets the past control it rather than thinking about what will make him truly happy. It also delves into the lives of the four other main cast members so you get a full feeling of why everyone is there and why they are making the choices they are. They spend the week together and all have grown through the pain to come out better. The cast gives a stellar performance
