Directed by James Gunn
After the passing of his mother a young Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is shanghaied by a group of aliens where he is raised to be the notorious space outlaw known as ‘Star Lord’. While retrieving an antiquity from some desolate planet, Quill finds himself at the center of a great conflict between the planet Xandar, and the Kree warlord fanatic Ronan. Along his journey he joins up with a rag-tag group of mercenaries, thieves, murders, and a living tree known simply as Groot. It’s up to these miscreants to overcome their differences, stop Ronan, and become the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
What can I say, I loved it. Disney acquiring Marvel comics was hands down the best thing to happen to Marvel since Stan Lee. Not only have the likes of ‘The Mighty Thor and Captain America become household names, but it appears that people genuinely enjoy these movies appealing to the hardcore comic aficionado to the inspired new comer. I was blown away in the theater when I saw this in 3-D and again on home media. Beautiful visual effects a solid cast and a groovy soundtrack. James Gunn is a relatively small and obscure actor, screenwriter, producer and director. You can bet though after this he will be considered a rising player since Guardians grossed 771.5 million dollars, that’s money in the bank!
