Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Directed by: Chris Columbus

Synopsis: This is the second film in the Harry Potter series. In this film, Harry Potter is visited by a house elf and asked not to return to Hogwarts. However, Harry has to go back as Hogwarts is his home. Harry then escapes his aunt and uncle’s house, and finds a lot of weird things starting to happen. For one, he can’t get onto the platform 9 and 3/4 to catch his train, somebody is petrifying students and Filch’s cat, and Harry is beginning to hear a strange voice that nobody else can hear. Soon word is out that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened, a secret hideout in the castle created by Salazar Slytherin (one of the four founders of the Hogwarts) that houses a monster. The Chamber could only be opened when Salazar’s one true heir had arrived back to Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione set out to find out what is in the Chamber of Secrets, who is doing the petrifying, and who is the one true heir of Slytherin.

Review: Honestly, the best series of books I have read in a very long time. It is wonderful how the books written by J.K. Rowling come to live in the movies. Just how I had pictured everything while reading, I saw in the films if not what I saw was better. I love the adventures and magic of Harry Potter. I thought that the film is a fantastic film for the entire family to enjoy. The special effects are wonderful as you see ghosts, a willow tree that beats on people and things with it’s branches, giant spiders, a flying car, house elves, a giant snake, spells come alive, a phoenix, and many more magical creatures. I really enjoyed how Harry and his rival Draco Malfoy have a much-anticipated quidditch match against each other as they compete as seekers on their different house teams, and Harry beats Draco to the golden snitch to win the game. I also love the friendship that Harry, Ron, and Hermione have and maintain throughout these films. It really shows it’s young viewers how to be true friends and be there for one another, In this film, Hermione ends up being petrified and Ron and Harry make it their priority to find out what has happened so that they can be there for their friend and save her. It is very comforting to watch the love that these friends have for each other grow. I strongly recommend to read the Harry Potter series and watch therse movies, I promise you will love it!
